Mike Matusow, also known as The Mouth, was born April 30, 1968 in Los Angeles California. Today Mike is a professional poker player living in Henderson, Nevada. His nickname comes from the fact that he has earned a reputation for trash talking while playing poker.

Matusow began his poker career in the early 1990s while he worked as a poker dealer before eventually becoming a professional player. In his early years Matusow attempted to work as an auto mechanic; however, he never finished the required training and eventually began to work in the furniture owned by his family. His first real experience with poker came with playing video poker at Mixim Casino after he turned 18. His obsession with playing poker became so serious that he at once point attended Gamblers Anonymous meetings.

Matusow is well known for his willingness to stake another player due to the fact that he was frequently staked in his early days by another player. In 1998 he staked a portion of Scotty Nguyen’s entrance fee into a satellite and when Nguyen won Matusow received $333,333 in return for the partial stake he placed. Three years later Matusow went on to finish in 6th place of the same event. Matusow’s other successes include winning the WSOP Tournament of Champions as well as placing 9th in the main event of the 2005 WSOP.

Matusow made it to the final table at a World Poker Tour event in 2004. In 2006 he finished as runner-up in the WPT Bad Boys of Poker II. He has also appeared in Poker Superstars III as well as on the European Poker Tour and Poker After Dark.

Matusow also plays online poker frequently and is a member of Full Tilt Poker’s Team Full Tilt.

Matusow’s total live tournament winnings exceed $5,000,000.
